Will You Help Us?

The Centex Humane Society operates the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Killeen. It is the only "no kill" shelter serving the greater communities of Killeen, Ft Hood, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights and outlying areas of Bell/Coryell Counties. Their source of revenue is primarily from donations, grants, fund raisers, and pet adoption fees. 55% of their revenue comes from donations. The shelter is in desperate need of additional space especially now with so many of our troops being deployed, leaving a higher number of animals behind. We are currently housing 146 cats and 90 dogs in a space that was meant to house 60 cats and 60 dogs. We are hoping to build a new facility to accommodate the increased numbers. Please help us help these animals. Thank you!!

Sarah Palin defies political logic with her sudden, stunning announcement to leave office more than a year early.

Group Sotomayor advised fought job tests (AP)

FILE - This June 2, 2009 file photo shows Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor on Capitol Hill in Washington. The top Republican on the Senate committee that will consider Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination says a Puerto Rican civil rights group's papers could shed light on her judicial approach, particularly her view of racial preferences in hiring. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak, File)AP - A civil rights group on whose board Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor served filed racial bias lawsuits over employment examinations that resemble a Connecticut case in which she ruled against white firefighters, documents released by the Senate show.

MOUNTAIN OF DEBT: Rising debt may be next crisis (AP)

The soaring national debt is recorded on the National Debt Clock in New York, Friday, July 3, 2009. Already complicating efforts by President Barack Obama and Congress to cope with the worst recession in decades, economists warn that the mountain of debt easily could become the next full-fledged economic crisis without firm action from Washington. (AP Photo/Yanina Manolova)AP - The Founding Fathers left one legacy not celebrated on Independence Day but which affects us all. It's the national debt.
